Chalazion is a disease of inflammatory effect; at the initial stage, the pathology is very similar to ordinary barley, but after a few days the lump only becomes larger, unlike barley. In a situation where chalazion is not treated, it manifests itself as redness and severe thickening of the eyelid.
When the tumor has already appeared, palpation can reveal its clear boundaries, and the patient does not experience pain.
Over the course of several months, a chalazion may manifest itself only as swelling of the eyelid, while causing a squeezing sensation on the eye. In addition, pathology often provokes the development of secondary diseases, so there is no need to delay treatment; it is necessary to immediately begin treatment of chalazion with traditional medicine.
The effectiveness of aloe against chalazion
In many cases, traditional medicine is effective in treating chalazion. But it can only be used after mandatory consultation with the attending ophthalmologist. In this case, you will need to strictly follow the prescription of the medications in the exact dosage.
Treatment with aloe-based medications can be combined with a light eye massage; it helps eliminate excess fluid, which significantly reduces swelling of the eyelids.
In a situation where, after 4 days from the start of home treatment, no positive changes are observed, the patient’s condition has sharply worsened, you should seek help from a medical institution. Otherwise, drug therapy may be ineffective and surgical intervention may be required.
First aid
If a chalazion ruptures, it is recommended to immediately consult an ophthalmologist. If this is not possible, it is recommended to carry out first aid measures at first:
- Wash the wound with antiseptic agents; for this you can use Furacilin solution. It is necessary to moisten a cotton pad in the solution and rinse the eyes well from the outer to the inner corner of the eyelid. There should not be any foreign substances left on the tissues, which could be the internal secretions of the chalazion or purulent discharge.
- Apply antibacterial drops into the eyes. They use Tsipromed, Levofloxacin, Tobrex, Vigamox. Apply 1-2 drops of the drug. It is not recommended to generously water the affected area with the medicine.
- Place antibacterial ointment under the inner eyelid. For these purposes, you can use Tetracycline, Erythromycin.
- If the patient experiences swelling and redness of the tissues, a compression bandage soaked in Levomekol ointment can be made. It will gradually destroy pathogenic microorganisms and eliminate tissue swelling by drawing out the capsule component from the affected area.
Despite the first aid provided, it is recommended to consult an ophthalmologist as soon as possible. He will check the correctness of the actions performed, the presence or absence of the remaining contents of the capsule. After this, he will give recommendations for further treatment. In complicated cases, additional removal of the capsule may be necessary to avoid infection of tissues and blood.
Recipes
Aloe based ointment
To prepare a medicinal ointment at home, you need 4 leaves of the plant, and the flower must be at least 3 years old, and 5 milliliters of wheat germ vegetable oil. The stems should be thoroughly washed and placed on a soft towel and wait until it dries.
After this, you need to wrap the leaves in clean parchment paper and put them in the refrigerator to cool. After 3 days, grind the stems in a meat grinder and let it brew for 5 hours. Apply a homemade ointment to the area of the affected eyelid, the frequency of use is 2 times a day, the course of therapy is 1 week.
The prepared ointment has an effective anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect, in addition, it prevents the development of complications. But in the case of an advanced stage, you do not need to spend 3 days developing the active components of the product, but immediately consult an ophthalmologist.
Eye compress against chalazion based on aloe
To prepare, first of all, you will need 2 tablespoons of aloe juice and the same amount of mint tincture. A day before the start of treatment, the aloe stems are cut off and wrapped in foil, after which the plant must be placed in the refrigerator to activate the active substances. To prepare a mint tincture, add water to the herb and let it brew for 3 hours.
Then strain and mix with the freshly obtained aloe juice. Soak a cotton pad in the prepared solution, apply it to the affected area of the eye, and lie there for 30 minutes. Repeat the procedure 4 times a day, continue until complete recovery.
Eye drops
A 1:1 ratio of water and aloe juice will only help at the initial stage of chalazion development. The prepared solution effectively disinfects the surface of the eyelid, and for greater effectiveness, a massage can be performed after instillation - this will significantly speed up the process of removing pus from the formed cavity.
Aloe compress
This is the simplest and safest recipe; for this you need to squeeze out a tablespoon of juice from a freshly picked plant leaf, dip gauze or a cotton pad in it and apply it to the sore spot. It is necessary to repeat 4 times a day.
Aloe with calendula
The preparation is quite simple - you need to mix aloe juice with calendula infusion in water. To create an infusion, you need to pour boiling water over the inflorescences of the plant and let it brew for 2 hours, then strain and mix aloe juice and tincture in a 1:1 ratio. Use as lotions. Simply soak a cotton pad in the solution and apply to the affected area. Use the product once a day until complete recovery.
Treatment methods.
Can chalazion be cured? “Yes,” the ophthalmologists answer. Treatment can be carried out in several stages and can be conservative or surgical.
Conservative
In the early stages of the disease, in some cases it is possible to solve the problem with minimal means - using disinfectant drops and salt lotions. It is appropriate to use physical therapy methods, in particular, the use of a helium-neon laser to relieve inflammation or polarizing light (Bioptron device). All these measures are aimed at resolving the chalazion.
If they do not bring results, move on to the next stage of treatment - using the drug Kenalog. Using a thin needle, a drug with a strong anti-inflammatory effect is injected into the chalazion cavity. Kenalog prevents the formation of a fibrous capsule around the source of inflammation, and by relieving the inflammatory process, it promotes the resorption of the chalazion. This stage of treatment lasts about two weeks.
Surgical
If there is no effect, experts reduce the acute inflammatory process to a minimum, after which they recommend surgical removal of the chalazion.
Until recently, there was only one method of surgical intervention - the contents of the chalazion along with the fibrous capsule were removed through a traditional incision with a scalpel of the conjunctiva or skin. This operation is performed in a few minutes and is not difficult. Another thing is that, as in any other case, when it comes to surgical intervention, the possibility of complications (infection, bleeding, etc.) cannot be ruled out. The rehabilitation period after this operation lasts 4-5 days, and during this time patients must be under medical supervision.
Recommendations
Following the recommendations, a recurrence of chalazion in a child will be unlikely:
- Before you start using a traditional medicine, you need to make sure that it will not cause a severe allergic reaction. To do this, you need to consult an allergist or do a test by yourself applying a little of the already prepared product to the inside of your wrist.
- Before you start cooking, you need to wash all the ingredients so as not to accidentally introduce an infection into your eye and make it worse.
- Treatment of chalazion in children has some differences from treatment in adults. Before deciding to independently treat a child with traditional medicine, it is imperative to visit an ophthalmologist for a consultation.
- Treatment of chalazion with traditional medicine can be combined with eyelid massage.
- In a situation where the disease has entered the purulent-necrotic stage, traditional methods may be ineffective.
Why is a chalazion rupture dangerous?
When the tissues of the formation break through, all the contents come out. It is necessary to immediately apply antibacterial and antiseptic drugs to eliminate the possibility of infection of the affected area and the introduction of bacterial microflora into internal tissues.
In some cases, complications may develop after rupture of the skin or mucous surfaces:
- suppuration with infection in the internal tissues, which can cause severe swelling and redness of the eyelid;
- slight bleeding from the affected surface, which often frightens all patients;
- an incompletely treated wound, which subsequently leads to the re-formation of a chalazion under the eyelid;
- the formation of an inflammatory process of the eyelids, cornea, conjunctiva, which worsens the patient’s well-being.
To prevent such situations, it is recommended to provide the patient with first aid, then immediately consult a doctor. He looks at the contents of the burst chalazion and evaluates the inflamed tissue. In some cases, resection of the fistula tract may be required, followed by the application of suture material and a compression bandage.
Prevention
To prevent the development of chalazion, you just need to follow some preventive measures, and first of all, perform all the necessary hygiene procedures:
- wash your face in the morning and before going to bed at night using antiseptic cosmetics;
- It is forbidden to touch eyes and mucous membranes with dirty hands;
- always wash your hands after going outside;
- Healthy food;
- exercise daily;
- take multivitamins to boost your immunity.
How to diagnose chalazion inflammation
A chalazion visually resembles a small hailstone-shaped compaction. The tumor has clear boundaries, is easily palpable, and most often painless.
How does “hailstone” differ from “barley”:
- no discomfort at the initial stage;
- the swelling does not disappear after a few days;
- the neoplasm increases in size over time;
- Unlike “barley,” “hailstone” is clearly distinguishable from both the outer and inner sides of the eyelid.
When a chalazion develops, the tumor increases in size over time.
Blockage of the meibomian gland ducts can occur in the following cases:
- entry of microscopic foreign bodies into the duct, for example, lumps of mascara, dust;
- inflammatory process due to an infectious disease;
- weakened immunity, for example, due to vitamin deficiency;
- irregular hygiene procedures.
A chalazion is also called a meibomian cyst. The tumor may open as a result of conservative treatment. But if the chalazion does not go away, it can cause ophthalmic diseases. The inflamed “pouch” increases in size and puts pressure on the cornea of the eye. As a result, clouding of the cornea or the development of astigmatism is possible. Therefore, under no circumstances should you let the disease take its course!
chalazion in a child
We visited a paid ophthalmologist today... - We have CHALAZION (((((((((
girls, tell me what to do Hydrokartisone-garmon.....
Whose children had such a problem???? And I came to the conclusion that our free doctors do not treat, but cripple... Dimka’s left eye was swollen and red for 2 months, then it went away - I changed my mind EVERYTHING - and a midge could bite, and an allergy to fruits (as Once it was the season for all the healthy berries and vegetables... I went to all the doctors - I called all the specialists - starting with an ophthalmologist and ending with an allergist!!!!!! The little one’s eye didn’t bother me - the eyelid was swollen, but the eye itself did not turn red...
One ophthalmologist (before that she worked in a clinic as a pediatric nutritionist!!!!!!!!!) told me that the child simply has CONJECTIVITIS - and there is a collection of pus, which, as a rule, should accumulate in the eye -!!!!!!!! ATTENTION!!!!-I JUST DIDN’T NOTICE!!!!!!!!!!!She prescribed Albucid and Suprastin for us....After drinking the entire course of Suprastin, everything remained unchanged....the second doctor was on vacation - I hoped that it was this one the doctor will give us the correct diagnosis...
And now our “miracle” doctor came back from vacation.... Having come to see her and listened to my experiences, she asked me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!- “Which eye is bothering you??? Which eye is blushing?” ???!!!!!!!!!!!!To say that I was in shock and in a..e..means to say nothing.....after all, at the time when we came to her, he was really swollen! !!!!!!After looking at our eyes, she also prescribed us a course of Suprastin, Albucid and Zyrtec and advised us to go to an allergist!!! Then she said that we have a predisposition to poor vision - she named the disease - when I asked her what kind of disease it was and how it develops, manifests itself, what causes it - after all, we undergo examinations all the time and they didn’t tell us this before.....the doctor laughed in my face and advised me to look on the Internet for information that interests me...Oh my God, what country do we live in??? “When a person comes with a child in his arms and asks for help from a “SPECIALIZED” doctor, and these people behave like this.....
We went to the allergist - she told us to remove all red and allergic foods from our food - milk, bananas, carrots, hard labor - soak and much more - ALTHOUGH WE HAVE BEEN EATING ALL THESE PRODUCTS SINCE 6 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!! Our eye went away.....but not for long - weather changes began - and from the cold days the eye swollen and turned red again!!!!!! A friend said that she had a chalazion - it was removed only surgically and that all the symptoms were very similar to ours similar!!!!!!!!!
Today, having given up on everything and not waiting for the eye to completely swell, we drove to a paid clinic!!!!!!THE DOCTOR!!!!!!Looking at the light, the eye itself immediately said that my fears about the chalazion were confirmed!!!!!!! !!!You don’t have to cut, I just prescribed “HYDROCARTISON” ointment and drops... this reaction was due to the fact that the body was cooling down and grabbing cold air, which was enough. The doctor didn’t say anything about poor eyesight, after examining Dimka on special machines, he said that everything was fine and there was no reason no worries!!!!! 2 weeks later for check-up. Hearing what we were treated with, he was shocked….
I don’t understand, if our moronic doctors don’t have enough brains, specialization, why the hell are you sitting there if you can’t help people?????? Moreover, in our city “OUR SPECIALISTS” don’t accept it if mothers go with their children to paid doctors in private clinics…..((((((((((((BUT IF THEY CAN’T HELP PEOPLE WHY CAN’T THEY RECOGNIZE THEIR ERROR????
I understood one thing, it’s better to pay money for the case and find out that they will listen to you, give you advice and lick you, rather than sit and wonder what’s wrong with you and your child!!!!!!!!!!
