Daily regime
Tired eyes are a direct path to poor vision. Once you properly establish your daily routine, with mandatory short-term rest, your vision will stop catastrophically deteriorating.
The ideal option for such a relaxation would be a walk, at the same time the muscles of the whole body will warm up. If this is not possible, for example, while you are at work you cannot leave the office, then a few breaks are enough. Especially when the work involves using a computer or a large number of papers.
Which vision correction method is right for you?
Due to age-related changes in the eyes, indications for laser or other vision correction methods may change. What is suitable for young patients may be contraindicated for older people or vice versa.
For example, laser correction is contraindicated for children under 18 years of age, since the child’s body is constantly growing, including the eyeball.
The choice of vision correction method is influenced by:
- age;
- floor;
- health status;
- eye diseases;
- profession;
- patient's physical activity.
Types of vision pathologies
Lifestyle and occupation are also important criteria in choosing a method for restoring vision. People engaged in intellectual work often require good near vision. Computer users will prefer comfortable work at a medium distance. Many professions (pilot, driver) require good distance vision and depth perception.
Eye exercises
Rest breaks spent on social networks are far from the best option. Simply sitting on a chair and looking at one point will also not add sharpness to your vision.
There are a great variety of exercises and techniques to relax tired eyes. Along with relieving tension, they will help improve vision after 40 years.
It is very important to do such training regularly over a long period of time. Of course, the result will not be immediate, but in the end, you will only be amazed at how great simple eye gymnastics helps.
Basic exercises:
- blink frequently while simultaneously focusing your gaze on objects;
- quickly “shoot” with your eyes, jumping from close to distant objects and vice versa;
- without moving your head, you need to “draw” numbers, letters, and various shapes with your gaze;
- You can purchase a book or album with special pictures and, when the opportunity arises, look at them, following the instructions and recommendations of the authors.
After about a month of daily performance of such training, you can notice the first results. Then it is important not to stop there, because such exercise is not only a method of improving vision, but also an excellent prevention of eye diseases in the future.
Why does near vision deteriorate after 40?
Every person over 40 notices some changes in their vision. For example, the occurrence of a disease such as presbyopia - a gradual loss of focusing near vision. “Short arm disease” is what this disease is sometimes called, because when reading the small print of a newspaper, many people have to move the magazine away. It develops at the age of 40 years. It is then, while reading or sewing, that a person begins to feel discomfort. Unfortunately, it is impossible to avoid this disease. Even someone who has had excellent vision throughout their life will become presbyopic.
Symptoms may include:
- Blurriness while working at the computer, reading, etc.;
- Headache (because you constantly have to strain your eyes trying to see something);
- Tired eyes;
- Bad feeling.
What causes presbyopia?
First of all, these are age-related processes, as well as loss of elasticity of the lens. It can change shape while focusing at close range.
Folk remedies
The most popular folk remedies are lotions, rinsing, and instillation. For this purpose, decoctions, tinctures, and extracts are used.
For example, in 200 g of boiled water or tea, dilute ½ tsp. honey, then cotton pads moistened with the resulting liquid are applied to closed eyes. After 30 minutes, rinse with cool water.
A decoction of parsley is good for washing the eyes or instilling them (no more than 3 drops at a time).
Chamomile, fennel, calendula - their decoctions are indispensable for lotions or rinses.
Young nettle and raspberry leaves. 5 tbsp. l. pour 0.5 liters of boiling water over the raw material and let it brew for 30-40 minutes. Drink 200 g of infusion 3 times a day.
To remove “sand”, pain, burning with severe fatigue of the optic nerve, you need to rinse with horsetail infusion.
There are always tea bags on hand in the house, any tea will do - black, green. To relieve fatigue from strained eyes, place the cooled bags on your eyelids with your eyes closed and lie quietly for a while - about 10 minutes. Even this measure brings results: it relieves irritation, eye fatigue, and swelling of the eyelids.
Surgical intervention
Only comprehensive adherence to recommendations has a positive effect. Gradually, but without harm to health. But sometimes it happens that someone wants to improve their vision after 45 years here, now and as soon as possible. There are two exits; glasses (lenses) and surgery.
A qualified ophthalmologist will quickly and efficiently select glasses or contact lenses with the required number of diopters. An ophthalmologist will perform lens replacement or laser correction if indicated.
It is worth noting that such conservative treatment has a temporary effect. Vision will recover for a period of time, and then begin to deteriorate again if prevention and proper follow-up care are neglected.
What to do with presbyopia?
When age-related changes cause farsightedness, your ophthalmologist will most likely recommend wearing glasses to correct your vision. They should definitely be used while reading. They will be useful when you need to spend a long time at the computer or do some manual work.
There are various options here:
- A decline in visual function can be corrected by wearing multifocal glasses. Why is it advisable to use them? Although such devices do not have an attractive appearance, they help to focus at different distances. They will be useful for those patients who used regular glasses until the age of 40.
- You shouldn't give up contact lenses either. For example, a person sees distant objects perfectly. Then it is done so that one eye will see better at close range. That is, thanks to contact lenses you can achieve bifocal vision. Many people like this option and choose it because it does not cause any problems.
In cases where the patient does not want to wear glasses, the doctor recommends laser correction. It is indicated not only for presbyopia. The surgical method is used to eliminate myopia or astigmatism.
However, not everyone undergoes surgery. Even if vision decreases, laser correction is contraindicated for people with:
- diabetes mellitus;
- severe hypertension;
- autoimmune diseases.
Hardware drugs
Today, pharmacology offers many multivitamin complexes. They do not have a therapeutic effect, but are very effective together with the tips described above. Moreover, they do not require a prescription and can be taken independently. The main thing is not to overdo it.
But all kinds of eye drops are absolutely not recommended to be used without consulting an ophthalmologist, otherwise you can harm yourself.
In any case, for any signs of vision deterioration over the age of 40, the very first thing to do is visit a specialist. He will suggest methods of conservative or alternative treatment. Perhaps, if time is not lost, everything will work out with preventive measures without drastic intervention.

So I had the same problem. I work at the computer, and I stopped paying attention to the fact that my eyes began to get tired quickly. I underwent an examination and was convinced that my visual acuity had indeed dropped. Now, I have made it a rule to take breaks from work more often. It is also very important to blink often so that the membrane of the eye does not dry out. By the way, I want to confirm that carrot juice really has a positive effect. For now I'm doing without glasses.

I started thinking about laser vision correction; eye exercises, vitamins and various folk remedies help restore my vision a little, but I can’t count on a miracle. And then, I know from myself that sometimes I’m too lazy to do special exercises every day, and the result suffers greatly from this. In general, after forty years, vision declines quickly.

Unfortunately, with age, the elasticity of the lens is lost and there is no escape from this. Of course, you can buy glasses or contacts, but anyone who has tried wearing them knows how inconvenient it is. You can also have surgery, but no one will give you a 100% guarantee of success. For myself, I chose the path of healthy eating, eye exercises and the use of specialized vitamins. So far the improvements are minor, but I'm trying
