We all know that the eyes are the mirror of the soul. An expressive look can attract the attention of any interlocutor. And you can create this most expressive look with the help of thick and long eyelashes. If your own eyelashes cannot boast of unprecedented beauty, then artificial extensions will help correct the situation. This technology is very popular among girls; it is becoming part of everyday life, and not just a privilege for screen stars. But over time, everything needs to be updated and this procedure is no exception. This is why correction of eyelash extensions exists.
What is correction of eyelash extensions and when is it needed?
Correction of eyelash extensions is a technology that returns the original appearance of eyelash extensions. Using this technology, all damaged or missing eyelashes are replaced with new ones.
This process helps your eyelash extensions look beautiful for a long time, without having to undergo extensions again.
The main advantages of removing and correcting artificial eyelashes are:
- speed is a very fast process, usually lasting no more than 40 minutes;
- cheap - after all, the price of correction of eyelash extensions is half as much.
To carry out the correction, you should have approximately half of the artificial eyelashes remaining. The rest of the hairs have most likely simply fallen out or become unusable and should be replaced with new ones.
Types of eyelash extension correction
If the time has already come for the first correction, that is, half of the eyelashes are no longer what they were before, you should go to a salon where you will have a correction.
Even before visiting the salon, you need to decide on the end result. How do you want your eyelashes to look?
There are several types of correction of eyelash extensions, they depend on the wishes of the client:
- American
- the number of your eyelashes and artificial ones are the same, they differ only in length. - Japanese
- mink hairs are used for this variety, the result is very thick. - Hollywood
- hairs are collected in small bundles and glued. Depending on the client’s wishes, they can be located throughout the entire eyelid or only in the corners of the eye.
Remember that discomfort or other unpleasant feelings in the eye after the procedure are not normal and this does not depend on the type of correction. This means that the master violated the rules of procedure.

The master made a mistake if after the procedure you:
- experience painful sensations, burning in the eyes;
- scratch your eyes constantly;
- feel lumps on your eyelashes;
- you feel that after extensions your eyelashes have become much heavier.
In this situation, you need to immediately remove the eyelash extensions and change the technician. Remember that after the correction you should not experience any discomfort, the procedure is painless.
If the correction is successful, your eyelashes will return to their previous appearance. The eyelashes will be natural and neat and will clearly highlight your eyes.
When should you go for correction?
A natural eyelash “lives” on average from 30 to 40 days. The first correction is recommended to be carried out 2 – 3 weeks after extension. The specialist will assess the condition of the eyelashes and tell you when to come again. The standard interval between subsequent procedures is 1–1.5 months.
You can see the need for correction yourself; if your eyelashes are thinning and don’t look very aesthetically pleasing, then it’s time to go to the salon.
Correction is not done if natural eyelashes fall out profusely or become noticeably thinner or weakened. In this case, the hair extensions should be removed and the eyes should be given a rest.
How to properly correct eyelash extensions
The procedure for correcting eyelash extensions:
- If you are wearing lenses, you need to remove them and wash off all makeup.
- First, the eyelashes are combed to check which ones are falling off.
- Each hair is processed and disinfected.
- Then the master removes the artificial eyelashes that are located on the natural ones. Approximately half of the eyelashes are replaced during the procedure.
- And lastly, the master attaches new hairs to the regrown eyelashes.
The lashmaker should not glue the material to the vellus eyelashes, they are too weak and will not be able to hold artificial hairs. If you neglect this rule, your eyelashes will not last long. Young masters often make this mistake.
It is important to monitor the revumer during the extension procedure. It should not get on hairs that do not need to be removed, that is, only damaged hairs need to use a revumer. Therefore, only after all the falling off cilia have been removed can you begin to glue new fibers.
Flaws
- Floating cost - some craftsmen set the final price based on the volume of work performed; it is impossible to predict it in advance, and therefore assess the profitability of the offer.
- After correction, even a very successful one, the eyelashes quickly lose their neat appearance - as natural hairs grow, which the master did not work with.
- Frequent corrections can damage natural eyelashes.
- It is necessary to contact the same salon, the same specialist who had the extension done - most professionals do not correct someone else’s work.
If the eyelashes are severely damaged or have noticeably grown from the roots, the specialist will most likely not make a correction, but will suggest re-extension.
How often is correction of eyelash extensions necessary?
It may take about two to four weeks after the extension. How often you will have to perform this procedure depends on the following facts:
- How well do you take care of your eyelashes?
- How often do you use oily makeup products?
- How fast do your own eyelashes grow?
- How often do you interact with water, if you count not only daily washing and bathing, but also trips to the pool, the sea, etc.
- A lot also depends on the extension method. For example, bundles of artificial fibers fall out more often and faster than hairs with single extensions.
Frequency of correction of eyelash extensions depending on the selected effect
- Classic.
A girl can wear “classics” for quite a long period, with the right choice of material used and careful care, up to two months. However, we should not forget that each person is unique and the exact period is largely determined by the individual characteristics of his body.
- 2D effect.
The double effect allows you to get thicker eyelashes compared to classic extensions. The look becomes brighter and more expressive, but at the same time the load on the client's eyelashes increases. More careful care is required, it is not advisable to use greasy creams, and it is recommended to wash only with water. If you follow these recommendations, the 2D effect will last for a month.
- 3D effect.
This type of extension creates the effect of maximally lush and thick eyelashes. It is not suitable for everyday life and is more of an evening or holiday option. Three artificial hairs are applied to one eyelash, which creates quite a significant load on your own eyelashes and can cause them to become brittle and fall out. 3D will last from three weeks to a couple of months.
Varieties
Depending on the method of initial extension, the correction is:
- Eyelash – artificial hairs are attached to natural eyelashes one at a time.
- Bundle – a bunch of artificial hairs are immediately glued to the grown eyelashes.
Reasons for the rapid loss of eyelash extensions, which lead to the need for correction
Beautiful eyelash extensions will undoubtedly deteriorate over time. The time they are worn is determined by a whole set of factors, which include:
- The experience of the master and the quality of the materials he uses in the extension process. You should not expect a good result if a specialist extends long and dense hairs over the client’s weakened eyelashes. It is also important to consider the required distance and choose the right shape and type of material.
- The quality of your own eyelashes. If your hair is currently depleted, before extensions it is necessary to carry out a set of restorative procedures, otherwise the result will not only not please you with its splendor and thickness, but will also not last long.
- Growth rate. Correction of eyelash extensions must be carried out many times more often if the client’s own eyelashes are renewed quite quickly.
- Increased sebaceous secretions. Oily skin can ruin the result of a specialist’s work in a matter of days. This occurs due to the fact that during the extension process, fat-soluble glue is used, which gradually loses its properties upon contact with sebum.
- Individual characteristics of the body. For example, eyelashes can fall off at a rapid rate during hormonal changes, regardless of the qualifications of the artist and the quality of materials.
- Poor quality care.
It must be taken into account that synthetic hairs instantly deteriorate in those people who:
- during sleep they prefer to bury their face in the pillow;
- constantly touching their eyelids with their fingers, scratching or fiddling with them;
- use waterproof mascara and oil-based makeup removers;
- they often shed tears and rub their eyes;
- prefer fatty oil-based creams.
When using good materials during the extension process, sea water is not capable of harming the eyelashes. They absolutely do not interfere with swimming, tanning and an active lifestyle.
When using contact lenses during their daily replacement, the eyelashes are injured, so correction is required much more often.
How does the procedure work?
For 2-3 weeks, glued eyelashes look simply gorgeous. After this period, your own eyelashes begin to fall out, and accordingly, artificial eyelashes also fall out. With this method, eyelashes fall out unnoticed. The specialist removes regrown eyelashes and adds new ones.
Before starting the procedure, the specialist will definitely ask whether you are comfortable with eyelash extensions and how you carry out care. After this, you will begin to talk directly about the correction. If necessary, a specialist can suggest some adjustments to the design.
As soon as the eyelashes are combed, the master will remove those that will soon begin to fall out and degrease each eyelash. And only after that will he begin gluing artificial eyelashes. The duration of the procedure is 1 hour.
How to delay correction of eyelash extensions
The lifespan of eyelashes can be increased by following fairly simple rules:
- Eyelashes are attached to glue; they are thin and fragile, and require careful care. Mechanical and chemical effects on hairs are absolutely prohibited.
- For the first three hours after the procedure, you should avoid contact with water and the sun. During this time, the glue will completely dry, and you will be able to walk in sunny weather and go to the pool again.
- Heat exposure should be avoided for two days. It is better to postpone a trip to the bathhouse or solarium until better times.
- Sleeping face down on a pillow is strictly prohibited. In this case, artificial eyelashes will rapidly fall out - losses can be up to 50%.
- If you don’t want to see “bald spots” on your eyelashes, don’t rub your eyes. You can touch them with your fingernail, but under no circumstances rub them with your fist. It’s better not to use cosmetics either.
- Beware of tears! Eyelash extensions can be quite damaged by the salts contained in your tears. One bout of crying and you risk losing all your beauty.
- Listen to the recommendations that the specialist gives you during or after completion of the procedure. The master knows the quality of materials and his work better than anyone.
- It is better to keep visits to the sauna or steam bath to a minimum. High temperatures and steam have a negative effect on the glue used. Active recreation, including swimming or running, will not cause any harm.
When can a correction be made?
It happens that the master did not keep track of the humidity in the room or simply “didn’t have time” for the glue, and the client develops significant gaps or the eyelashes simply fall without their own. In this case, you should invite the client for an examination, check the reliability of the attachment of the remaining eyelashes mechanically, and make corrections for the fallen areas. Before you start attaching eyelash extensions, your own eyelashes that are left without artificial ones should also be thoroughly cleaned and degreased. Without this, even a perfectly placed eyelash will not last long. Do not forget that the conditions in the room must be suitable for work. Only in this case will the build-up be successful.
At the client's request, add volume. It happens that a girl has extensions done, and a week later she thinks that her eyelashes don’t look thick and bright enough. In this case, when correcting, you should resort to increasing the number of cilia. Of course, it will be impossible to significantly increase the volume, but adding a little will be quite possible.
Correction of eyelash extensions or new extensions: what to choose
The decision on whether to re-extend eyelashes or undergo a correction procedure is made by a specialist. Each client requires an individual approach. Each of the two presented methods has its own advantages and disadvantages:
- Correction of eyelash extensions is a more budget option.
- Building up is a much longer process.
- Extension will allow you not to go to the specialist again in a few weeks, as will be the case with correction.
- During the correction process, you can select hairs that are similar in appearance and structure to those previously glued.

The first scheme is correction every 3 weeks.
Most eyelash extension adhesives last 5 weeks. Based on this, we draw a graph (Scheme 1). The green dotted line indicates the validity period of the glue.
Dynamics of eyelash extension loss
Point A is the moment of eyelash extensions.
Point B – after 3 weeks, some of the client’s eyelashes will fall out due to regeneration and the duration of the glue, some will grow back and stay on the tips, some will peel off, they also need to be replaced. There will be 40% of eyelashes left that can still last.
Point C – The master adds 60% of new eyelashes to restore the same appearance as after extensions.
Point D – 2 weeks after correction, the eyelashes that were glued during extensions will fall out, as the glue will no longer hold.
Point E – by the time of the second correction, half of the eyelashes that were added during the previous correction will have fallen out. As a result, only 25% of good eyelashes will remain
Point F – during the 2nd correction the master will have to add 75% of new eyelashes.
Point G – after 2 weeks, the remnants of those eyelashes that were added during the previous correction will fall out (the glue has expired)
Point H – by the time of the 3rd correction, the second half of the eyelashes that were added at the previous correction fall out.
Point I - thus, at the 3rd correction, the master adds 70% of new eyelashes.
Then the schedule will be repeated. On each correction, the master’s work is on average 70%. This means that the cost of his service should be estimated at 70% of the cost of the extension.
The most popular prices for eyelash extensions and correction will be as follows:
Extension price | Correction price | Total cost per year |
200 UAH | 140 UAH | 2440 UAH |
250 UAH | 175 UAH | 3050 UAH |
300 UAH | 210 UAH | 3660 UAH |
2000 rubles | 1400 rubles | 24400 rubles |
Advantages of correction every 3 weeks:
- 2 weeks after correction, eyelashes look decent, as there are more than 60% of them
- correction takes less time than full extension
Disadvantages of correction every 3 weeks:
- most of the eyelashes fall off actively in the 3rd week
- By the time of correction, the client has only 30% of eyelashes that are ready to serve further.
- During correction, it is impossible to thoroughly rinse the interlash space.
- eyelashes remaining from previous extensions will fall out faster than newly extended ones.
